The City of Lenox operates under the mayor-council form of
government. The Council consists of five Council members at large for staggered
terms of four years. The mayor is elected for a term of two years.
Your City Council meets on the second and fourth Monday each month at 5:30 p.m.
in City Hall. All meetings are open to the public and you are cordially invited
to attend.

STORM SIREN: A three (3) minute steady siren will
sound if severe storms are in the Lenox area. A one (1) minute steady siren
will sound when the danger has passed.
UTILITIES: The City of Lenox provides gas and garbage
service. Lenox Municipal Utilities provide electric, water, cable, and sewer
services. We bill monthly for these services. The gas/garbage bill is mailed
out the 10th of each month and is due by the 30th. The electric, water,
cable and sewer bill is mailed out the 1st of each month and due by the
20th. For your convenience, there is a drop box by the door at City Hall for
your convenience.
DEPOSIT: A deposit intended to guarantee payment of
bills is required for service connection if you are a renter. Home owners
are not required to make deposits.
DISCONNECTION OF SERVICE NOTICE: A reminder notice,
as required by the Iowa Utilities Board, will be mailed after the 30th of
each month for the gas/garbage bills and after the 20th of each month for
the electric/water/sewer/cable bills to notify you that your bill is
delinquent and that you have 12 more days before disconnection of service.
After 12 days, you will be contacted personally and/or your premises will be
posted with a disconnect notice. This disconnect notice allows you 24 hours
from time of posting to make payment and/or arrangements for payment or you
will be disconnected. If disconnection does occur, you must pay all accounts
due plus a $40 reconnect fee.
GARBAGE COLLECTION: Garbage is collected every Monday
and Tuesday morning. Temple Street south is picked up on Monday, Temple
Street north is on Tuesday. Tom Christensen of Lenox picks up the garbage.
You may contact him at home 641.333.4298 with your trash concerns. You are
allowed 2 –32 gallon trash cans for your monthly garbage rate. For every 32
gallon can over the original two allowed, there is a $1.00 charge. You may
buy the extra garbage stickers at Curtis Trucking on Main Street or from
Tom.
SEWER LINES: All sewer lines, the line from the house
to the City’s main, are the property and responsibility of the property
owner subject to inspection by the City. If you have a sewer problem, please
report it to City Hall.
ANIMAL CONTROL: It is unlawful for ANY ANIMAL to run
loose at any time within the corporate limits of the City of Lenox. If your
animal is picked up and put in the pound, you shall pay an impound fee of
$40.00 plus $5.00 a day holding fee. You must show proof of rabies
vaccination to have your pet released. Every keeper of an animal shall
obtain a rabies vaccination for such animal. It is unlawful for anyone to
own or have in their possession an animal over the age of six months, which
has not been vaccinated against rabies.
OPEN BURNING: Open burning of landscape waste (grass
clippings, leaves, garden waste, brush and trees) originating on the
premises is permitted. However, burning must not be done on the sidewalks,
paved or seal-coated streets.
BUILDING PERMITS: A building permit is required
